Detail introduces timeline trimming with smart snapping and a speed control tool, making clip editing faster and more intuitive.
The first major addition is the ability to trim clips right in the timeline. Here's how it works:
Open any Detail project and select a clip on your timeline. You'll immediately notice new arrows on the right and left sides of the clip. These arrows are your new best friends for quick, precise trimming.
Simply drag these arrows to trim your clip without losing any of your original data. This is crucial—you're not permanently cutting anything, just adjusting what's visible in your project.
The trimming feature includes intelligent snapping points to help you make precise edits:
Dotted line snap: This represents the original length of your clip, making it easy to return to the full duration if needed
Playhead snap: Align your trim points exactly with your playhead position for frame-accurate editing
With this change it is so much easier to edit your timeline without losing any of your clip data.
This non-destructive approach means you can experiment freely with different trim lengths, knowing your original footage remains intact.
The second feature is a dedicated speed tool that gives you control over clip playback speed directly from the timeline.
To access it, select any clip and find the speed tool in the menu. You now have the ability to:
Speed up clips up to 3x the original speed
Slow down clips to 0.2x the original speed
When you adjust the speed, the clip duration automatically updates to reflect the change. For example, if you increase a clip to 2x speed, it will shorten to half its original length while playing back twice as fast.
This is perfect for time-lapses, slow-motion effects, or simply tightening up your edit by speeding through less critical moments.
These two features work together to give you more control without adding complexity. You can now make timing adjustments—both through trimming and speed changes—without jumping between different tools or menus. Everything happens right in the timeline where you're already working.
